Three and half years ago, Bec Beed lost her only brother through road trauma, she became an only child overnight. Bec has since written a book called ‘Beyond the Winding Road’

“Life changed so quickly, relationships changed, my dreams and ambitions changed and I felt very alone in this journey. This is my story, my words. It’s a story through my eyes about persistence, determination and finding the will to live again after losing my best friend, my brother, on that dreaded Winding Road.”

About Bec

Bec was a Primary School Teacher for 10 years until losing her brother in a tragic car accident. Bec has a passion for writing and after losing her brother, she wanted to share her story, her words and her heart. Bec wrote this book in the hopes that she could save a life and feels that if she succeeds then she has done her job.

Bec hopes her book will provide hope to those who have been or who are forced to experience the same trauma that her and her family have. She wants her readers to know that it is possible to find a way to live again.

After the accident ,Bec started counselling and was encouraged to write. She began a journal ,writing down her thoughts to help her make sense of the grieving process and to have concrete material she could reflect on and be proud of how far she had come. As she continued to write, it dawned on her that there was not a lot of literature available to those who have, had or are affected by road trauma. She also failed to locate a book that was a ‘sibling story’, a story of the effects of losing your brother or sister and a relationship that you can never recover again.

There are lots of stories written by mothers and fathers about their children, or the loss of a partner but losing a sibling is just as significant. In Becs case she is now an only child and she battles with the relationship she has lost everyday.

Bec left both her teaching profession and Victoria — moving to NSW to be closer to her parents. This move has given her space and time to grieve and embrace her feelings and emotions. She now runs a restaurant with her husband. As well as writing, Bec loves swimming, walking along the beach, barracking for St Kilda, watching her nephew Tyler grow and watching television series on Netflix.
